Meet the Cast


Alceste - Shawn Reese

Shawn is a stage veteran of both Birmingham and New York, having appeared in numerous plays and musicals in nearly two decades of performing. He designed the set for South City’s production last season of The Trip to Bountiful, and has also designed numerous other sets for shows such as To Kill a Mockingbird, West Side Story, and Little Shop of Horrors among others.  Onstage, he was most recently seen in Virginia Samford Theatre’s production of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. While in New York, he was on the board of Break-A-Leg Productions and The Gallery Players, one of the city’s premier Off-Off Broadway production companies. Notable roles include: Will Rogers (Will Rogers Follies), Tony (West Side Story), Joseph (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat), Hines (The Pajama Game), Benjy (My Favorite Year), William Roper (A Man for All Seasons), Phileas Fogg (Around the World in 80 Days), James (That Championship Season), Pablo Picasso (Picasso at the Lapine Agile), Will Parker (Oklahoma), and James Wilson (1776). Awards include the 2006 Irving Stern Award for Performer of the Year (LJCC).




Philintes - Corey Winston

Corey has appeared on various film and television commercials. In his daily life he works as an IT professional but has aspirations to work as a lead character on the silver screen.









Oronte - Mackey Atkinson

James Mackey Atkinson is thrilled to be working with such an amazing cast and crew. He has been performing all over Birmingham since he was a wee little lad.Stage credits include: Oliver! (title role), Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Footloose, Little Shop of Horrors, Fame, Aida, Show Boat, The King and I, Phantom, High School Musical, Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife and Bye Bye Birdie. He has also been studying ballet for over 20 years and an alumni of the Summerfest Performing Ensemble. He hopes that you all enjoy this production!!











Celimene - Lisa Bamberg
Lisa Bamberg- Lisa Bamberg is from Birmingham, AL. She is a recent graduate of Birmingham- Southern College with a major in theatre. This is her debut performance with the Park Players. Along with working in the theatre, she enjoys sailing and learning bharatanatyam, a style of classical Indian dancing. She sends her love and thanks to the wonderful cast and crew.







Eliante - Becky Johnson

Becky Thomas Johnson is grateful to once again return to the Park Players stage. She has performed at many different area theatres and was most recently seen as Jimmy Deeanne in the Park Player's production of Second Samuel. When not onstage you can find her enjoying life with her family or serving at WaterStone Church. Becky would like to thank everyone involved with Park Players for giving her a wonderful year of theatre. She would like to thank her husband, her 4 kiddos, and her church family for all their support. She gives all the glory to her Lord, Jesus.








Arsinoe - Yvonne Gauntt

This is Yvonne's forth show with Park Players. She has previously been seen as Philastrate in "Midsummer Nights Dream", Hortensio's Widow in "Taming of the Shrew", and Townswoman and Ursula's understudy in "Much Ado About Nothing". She has enjoyed playing the Party Planner / Theater Critic in this show, and thanks Maggie and Bianca, her middle daughters for taking care of their dramatic younger sister.








Acaste - Alden Williams

Alden is a high school junior at Arlington School, a small, private, and very much incredibly awesome place. In his spare time, Alden likes to read, see movies, and watch things online. He is also into other generic hobbies (eating, sleeping, etc.) He is currently studying as an actor for the Park Players theater group. They also are quite incredibly awesome. Alden has also been in two other plays a long time ago, in a school far, far away (not really -- Avondale Elementary School). In fourth grade, he played the narrarator for the “The Three Billy Goats Calypso.” He also played Mr. Frank in “The Diary of Anne Frank” in fifth grade. Upon hearing he was called in as an emergency replacement actor in “The Misanthrope,” Alden promptly, though temporarily, lost control of mental faculties and babbled like a lunatic. He was, despite this reaction, extremely pleased and was glad to accept.










Basque - Len Ward

Len is a long-time resident of Shelby County, Alabama and enjoys the theatre very much. This is his first appearance with The Park Players and is very excited to have been cast in The Misanthrope (Basque). Thanks Brad! His other appearances include Holy Ghosts (Cancer Man) with Birmingham Festival Theatre, Arsenic and Old Lace (Officer Brophy), The Boys Next Door (Mr. Klemper), Nunsense (Priest/ Stage Manager) and Blithe Spirit (Dr. Bradman) with Montevallo Main Street Players. The Rainmaker (Sheriff Thomas) and You Can't Take It With You (Mr. Kirby) with South City Theatre. Len has served in other theatre productions backstage as stage manager, set design and construction.





Maid/Costumer - Nancy Moore

Nancy is excited to be doing her first show for Park Players. She works days as the Historic Clothing Manager for the American Village and is also an historical interpreter portraying Dollie Madison and Mercy Otis Warren (one of America’s first playwright.) A graduate of Samford University in Theatre, she thanks Park Players for this chance to ply her craft.









Maid/Choreographer - Michele Santiago

Michele is thrilled to be performing her first show with Park Players. She was recently seen tapping in "42nd Street" with Gardendale Arts Council, as Taddy Jo- one of Ms. Mona's girls- in "The Best Little Wh*rehouse in Texas", and also was (believe it or not) The Mute in Theatre LJCC's production of "The Fantasticks". She will soon be appearing in Virginia Samford Theatre's production of "9 to 5" in January 2013. She performs with The Magic City Choral Society and serves as the Vice-President of the Women's Chorus. “Mean Ms. Michele” also serves as the program director for Magic City Youth Organization which promotes music & dance programs for at-risk youth. (That's code for "The Best D@mn Bartender in Bham.) SUPPORT THE ARTS IN BIRMINGHAM!!






Director - Brad Waters 
Brad is very excited to be directing his second show for Park Players. He’s also glad to be working with Producing Aritistic Director, Clay Boyce, as the Managing Artistic Director. There are lots of exciting things happening at Park Players and he encourages people to participate. “It’s all about community, “he says. “We hope our growth – our own space, offering classes, etc – is always about being able to provide more to our communities of artisans and patrons. My thanks to my Mom, Gail and everyone else that is helping us to succeed.









Stage Manager - Nicole Sturgeon 
Nicole resurrected her technical career with Birmingham Park Players "Second Samuel". Nicole's eyes were opened to theatre career at Clay Chalkville High School under the direction of Hal MacIntosh. Her technical works include productions, "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown", "Once on this Island", and "The Curious Savage." She would like to thank director Brad Waters for his kindness and trust and to Birmingham Park Players, "Thank you for your open arms. This truly is an answer to prayer." Joseph, "Thanks big man for letting me pursue my dream."
